Mike Lopez and I have been friends for quite a few years. We hadn't officially crossed paths in the late 90's but I knew about Mike and his endeavor with The Core, which was essentially an online radio station. Remember, this was the late 90's/Early 2000's so he was part of a team of pioneers trying to bring their music platform to the world. At the time, I was running a commercial project studio and trying to give a voice to all the local hip hop artists in the Bakersfield area. Delano, CA 1998. Fast forward to 2009 and we had become Facebook friends. Mike had grown as a bad ass commercial photographer while I had been shooting more as a hobby and for website projects that I was doing. Naturally, when Mike offered a class on photography, I jumped at the chance to learn from him. Mike's Photography Class
It wasn't long after that, we were hanging out and doing some commercial video projects together. Our friendship growing all the while. Naturally, hanging out together, we learn more about each other's trades and skills and our love for music. Mike is the type of guy who is always looking for the next project to take on so when he mentioned the idea for Mike and Dave Listen to Music, I was hesitant at first. I'm not really a big "in front of the camera guy" - MANY of my Facebook followers have said I should do engineering videos and I've always been like "yeeaah... I'm thinking about it.". After pondering the idea for a bit, I agreed to give it a shot and see how it goes. I figure if this goes well, it will give me the encouragement to do the engineering stuff too.
So the idea for Mike and Dave Listen to Music is this: 2 guys, both middle-aged and balding, who love music with a passion (especially Hip Hop) and want to share our perspective with other fans and have productive conversations about albums. Mike is the lyrical expert. A deep thinker who can appreciate the intelligent word play and articulate how music makes him feel. I'm the audio expert. A committed student of engineering and what makes or breaks a record sonically. We both dig producers and their signature production styles that make a record great. But at the end of the day, our opinions vary and make for a great perspective that hopefully can resonate both with fans of music and fans of audio. We really appreciate everyone who has watched the show and are working to bring even more content to the platform. We'd love to hear your feedback - good or bad so we can grow and make it a show that lots of people can enjoy. We're just a couple of guys trying to have some fun and share our thoughts. One final note I'd like to add... I really enjoy using my Photoshop skills for my own amusement in making hilarious pictures of Big Mike. He's a good sport about it but does retaliate on occasion. So, I'd like to present to you some of the greatest "hits" over the years. Enjoy!
